How WA Board of Nursing (WABON) Provides Support

The Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) protects the public's health and safety by regulating the competency and quality of licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, advanced registered nurse practitioners and nursing technicians. WABON is continually working towards providing the most current and up to date guidance for practicing nurses in Washington state.

Using the Scope of Practice Decision Tree

If you have questions about what activities a nurse can safely perform, please use the Scope of Practice Decision Tree tool, designed to assist nurses, nursing students, employers, and policy makers in determining the nurse’s responsibilities they can safely perform. The decision tree’s intended use is to complement professional judgment rather than deliver definitive answers to complex and evolving situations. It also encourages individual accountability in practice decisions, communicating the nursing scope of practice to health care professionals and students, and promotes safe nursing practices.
