Update Your Personal Information
You are responsible for maintaining your license, including updating your personal information.
- login to your Healthcare Enforcement and Licensing Management System (HELMS) portal to update your contact information (email, phone number, address), your legal name, or your social security number.
- If you do not currently have a HELMS account, please create an account through SecureAccess Washington (SAW) and then add the HELMS portal service to access your information.
How to update your personal information
If you have an active or pending Washington state nurse license, you can update your information online. It is your responsibility to keep your contact information current.
To update your information online you will need:

- Log in to your SAW account
- For help, see Create a SAW account
- Find the Healthcare Enforcement and Licensing Management System (HELMS) provided by the Department of Health in your list of services.
- Click on “Access Now.”
- Click “Continue”

How to change your name
To change your name, please submit a name change request through the HELMS Portal. The following documents are acceptable proof of a name change in Washington state.
- Marriage certificate
- Divorce decree
- Naturalization document
- Legal name change document signed by a judge
