Board of Nursing Summarily Restricts and Suspends RN and ARNP licenses of King County nurse after a hearing related to allegations of overprescribing opioids to multiple patients
OLYMPIA - The Washington State Board of Nursing issued a 30-day summary restriction to be followed by a summary suspension of the Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licenses of Medea R. Karr (RN 00158723, ARNP 30006987-NP) of Seattle, WA pending further legal action.
Investigations revealed Karr prescribed excessive amounts of opioid and other medications to multiple patients through her Willow Fibromyalgia and Hypermobility Clinic, PLLC, without following appropriate nurse practitioner guidelines, resulting in danger to the health and safety of her patients and the public. Karr’s summary suspension was based on her refusal to provide required responses to Board inquiries and subpoenas for requested patient records and files.
Due to the Board’s actions against her, Karr’s RN and ARNP licenses are restricted for 30 days to allow Karr to safely transfer her patients and their records to other providers, after which time Karr’s RN and ARNP licenses will be suspended. Karr cannot work as a registered nurse or advanced practice registered nurse in Washington while further legal action proceeds. Karr has 20 days from the date the summary restriction and suspension was issued to contest the action.
