Washington Health Professional Services (WHPS) maintains a network of peer support groups throughout the state, for nurses with substance use disorder. These groups do not provide treatment or counseling to participants, however they do serve as a source of continued support while creating an opportunity to monitor recovery status. In order to support coronavirus public health guidance, and safely continue this important program component, WHPS has temporarily moved all groups to a virtual or teleconference format. The Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission has provided GoToMeeting teleconference access and facilitation guidelines to all groups. While this has been an abrupt change in how most groups operate, participation has remained high and feedback is positive. In addition, nurses continue to remain involved in the recovery community by attending online sober support group meetings.
