The Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) is reminding nurses of a national scam that continues to circulate. Scammers send fraudulent documents to nurses similar to WABON’s official letterhead, or call nurses, notifying them they are the subject of an investigation, and their license was suspended. Further, they may be at risk of arrest unless they submit a payment immediately. The scammer requests private information that may include a social security number, credit card information, or other personal information.

As a reminder, the board will never call a nurse, nurse applicant, or anyone else requesting personal information and will never ask for immediate payment to resolve a disciplinary issue. Please be wary of these scam calls and do not provide personal information over the phone to anyone you do not know or trust.

If you receive a suspicious call or letter, do not provide any information and please call WABON customer service at 360-236-4703 to verify the validity of the call or letter. If you believe you were the victim of a scam, please contact the Washington State Office of the Attorney General at 360-753-6200 or visit their website. You can also file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office.
