Luis A. Herrera, DNP, ARNP, FNP-BC is a family nurse practitioner at SeaMar Community Health Center in Aberdeen, WA providing medical services to patients of any age, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation and regardless of income, occupation, gender, immigration status, or citizenship status. At SeaMar he specializes in primary care family medicine, including preventive health exams, prenatal care, acute care visits, minor procedures, health education, follow-up care from hospital visits, and referrals.
Luis comes from a family of farmworkers. He was born in Michoacan, Mexico and moved to Yakima, WA at the age of 15. Luis attended high school in Yakima and earned a B.S. in Anthropology from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA in 2005. Luis decided to join Teach for America and moved to Miami, FL, and taught middle school math for 4 years. Luis earned an A.A. and B.S. in Nursing at Miami-Dade College. He was a cardiac registered nurse at Baptist Hospital of Miami and Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. In 2019, Luis earned a Master's of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Florida International University in Miami, FL. In 2020, Luis earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from FIU. Luis returned to his home state of WA in 2020 to begin his career as a family nurse practitioner in a rural community.
Luis held the position of secretary for the Nurse Practitioner Council of Miami-Dade County from 2019 to 2020. His Meta Analysis on DVT Treatment and Prevention Research paper was presented as a poster board in the Haitian American Nursing Association (HANA) conference, Florida Nurses Association (FNA) conference, and Baptist Health South Florida symposium in 2019. Luis is a member of the Grays Harbor RISE Coalition– Red de Inclusion, Solidaridad y Empoderamiento (RISE), a community organization that provides support to Spanish speaking individuals and families in Washington.
