WABON is pleased to announce the passage of our first successful request legislation, House Bill 2416! House Bill 2416 changes the title for advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) to advanced practice registered nurse (APRN). APRN is a broader category that includes ARNPs and offers title protection in Washington state and aligning with the national titling standard.

The legislation was unanimously passed in both the House and the Senate, and Governor Inslee signed the bill on Monday, March 25. The title change will be implemented June 30, 2027, giving practitioners time to prepare for the shift. The APRN title should not be used until 2027. WABON will be supporting the implementation of this title change with focused information for insurers, employers, advanced practice nurses, the public, and others as we get closer to the implementation date.
