Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Commitment

Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) is dedicated to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment in nursing regulation. We aim to:

Through these commitments, we aim to advance excellence in nursing regulation, improve patient care outcomes, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and compassion in the nursing profession.

DEIB Task Force

WABON established a DEIB Task Force in January 2024 to evaluate our current policies and practices, identify areas for organizational improvement, and build strategies to enhance DEIB within our organization and the nursing community.

Stigma Reduction

WABON is committed to creating an inclusive environment that supports the well-being of all nurses. We recognize that biases can create significant barriers to seeking help and thriving in the workplace. By encouraging open dialogue, providing resources, and removing barriers, we aim to reduce stigma and ensure that all nurses feel safe and empowered to seek the assistance they need.

RCW 18.79.440 Substance Use Disorder Stipend Program Substitute House Bill 1255 (Chapter 141, Laws of 2023), codified under RCW 18.79.440 , aims to reduce stigma and encourage health care professionals to participate in a substance use disorder monitoring and treatment program. This legislation seeks to ensure that health care professionals can receive assistance without fear of judgment or professional repercussions by enhancing support and reducing barriers to accessing treatment services.

Health Equity Training

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN) are required to complete 2 hours of health equity continuing education (CE) when renewing their license under WAC 246-840-222.
